Dental Fillings

We are very proud to offer the latest advancements in non-metal filling options!

Historically, amalgam fillings, sometimes referred to as silver fillings, were the most commonly placed filling material. The problem for many on this is that the primary component of an amalgam filling is mercury, not silver. In addition, the distinctive coloration can make it very noticeable in the mouth.

Until recently, patients were often told that tooth colored fillings, were not as durable as traditional metal fillings.  This is not true.  Advancements in dental technology have now made the cosmetically superior naturally colored fillings rival the strength, wear, function and appearance of a real tooth.

Naturally colored fillings utilize composite resin.  Composite is a mix of acrylic resin and powdered glass-like particles that make a tooth-colored filling. Composite is used for inlays, veneers, and fillings, especially on front teeth. Sometimes it is used to replace a portion of a broken or chipped tooth. Advantages include color and shading that can be matched to existing teeth.

There are many advantages to Composite Fillings:

• The appearance is much better
• They actually preserve your teeth
• Color can be adjusted to match your tooth
• They help to prevent decay
• They are healthier than silver amalgam fillings
